VICTORIA BUSH
ART & DIGITAL MEDIA STUDENT
In a series of large scale charcoal drawings I distorted parts of the body to draw attention to them. What are people subconscious of? Why is this figure coiling away from the viewer, hiding under the material?
Using ink, pipe cleaners and travel brochures I created this art piece.
In a world without the sexualisation of the naked body (instigated by the media) how would people react to a person going about their day to day business naked? Their body not assessed and criticised by every looking eye?
These drawings of myself theatrically posing for a 'selfie' are an exploration of the idea of a selfie in a more organic media then a digital photo. My insecurities shown in a more personal manner with no intentional 'photoshop'. Is the act of the 'selfie' theatre itself?
A few sketches of people I observed in an M & S cafe.
Development of my initial drawings, ready for my larger charcoal images.
THESE IMAGES OF FIGURES COME FROM A VARIETY OF PROJECTS. SOME ARE MERELY TO HELP IMPROVE MY PRACTICE AND ACCURACY OF DRAWING THE PROPORTIONS OF THE FIGURE, OTHERS TO DEVELOP THE IDEA OF THE 'ORGANIC' SELFIE, HOW WE SHOW OURSELVES ON SOCIAL MEDIA TODAY AND THE DESEXUALISATION OF THE NAKED FIGURE. THEN THERE ARE A FEW IMAGES ON THE IDEA OF DISTORTION AND HOW WE VIEW CERTAIN PARTS OF OUR BODIES.
